My name is Michael Lotz and I work as a freelance sound designer and sound editor for films.
As I see it, there is no better way to express feelings and emotions than by means of music and sound. That is why I am always very keen on working with musicians, composers, directors, or producers and to support them in finding the best unique tone for all individual ideas in creating perfect film sound.
I live and work in Dresden, Germany. Most of the time, I am working in my own studio, but I would go anywhere to join a good project. So, if you need a sound editor for your new project, please feel free to have a look at my Soundfolio and do not hesitate to contact me.
Following on the acoustic level
Film sound does not just come about in the process of filming or the process of cutting. Usually it needs an extensive post-production, in which great care is taken to change neither the character nor the idea of the recorded film.
My aim is to follow the vision on the acoustic level together with the director and the team. This process involves balancing out technical deficits, recording and editing overdubs or atmo, finding the right score, mixing foley, till Additional Dialogue Recording (ADR) and creating special sound effects. All these things and more are necessary to make the whole world of motion picture sound alive.
FINDING THE BEST TONE
Producing music is not just recording, editing, and mixing instruments and vocals from bands or ensembles. It is more like finding the best unique tone for the individual musical idea and style. This process already starts with finding the right microphone for the vocal artist or the right amp and cab for the guitarist.
Certainly, the most time is spent in post-production. Thanks to many years of experience in music making, I can advise musicians which sound-altering parameters are needed and I enjoy lively discussions about it. After all, the last thing is to find the right technical settings, but don’t worry, I will find it ;)
Moving into proper light
Since the beginning of my studies, I have been very interested in all types of communication media. I think that it is very important for all musicians and creative working people to be able to present their works in a good and target-group oriented way. So, additional to the production and the editing of music and sound, I have also specialized in doing web- and print design.
I used to publish Flash websites, using After-Effects and Actionscript. Nowadays, I set up templates for modern CMS with the help of the new, great Html5, CSS3, and JavaScript features.
